If you have roving workers toting iPads, there's a new service that will let them access and manage files anytime and anywhere. Syncplicity, a provider of cloud-based file management, synchronization, collaboration and backup applications, announced today the addition of an iPad app to its lineup. The app provides a virtual private cloud for iPad users.
The app will enable iPad users to browse, share and manage files and folders stored on any computer, device, server or cloud application, such as Google Docs. It will eliminate the need to email file attachments, use virtual private networks (VPN) or upload files to a new location in order for them to be accessed by mobile iPad users, the company said.
The new app, which follows the introduction of an iPhone app last month, extends the company's footprint in the cloud and mobile file management arena.
The introduction of this app helps pave the way for small businesses to join the corporate march to mobility. By 2013, according to Garter research, 80 percent of businesses will support a work force using tablets.
"The work force is moving to the cloud with or without IT's help," Leonard Chung, Syncplicity's co-founder and chief product strategist, told BusinessNewsDaily. "The Internet is the de facto corporate network. Users will interact day in and day out with multiple clouds, both public and private. Convergence will be driven around data, not devices, operating systems or even applications."
Syncplicity lets users create their own private clouds, Chung said. It provides users with access to the right file, instant synchronization, backup, restoration and collaboration no matter their location.
The iPad app will be available in the Apple App Store for free. First-time users of Syncplicity can start with a free 2 GB personal account or free 30-day business edition trial. Paid plans for business users begin at $45 a month for three users.
