Even though the iPad is a latecomer to the e-book reader market, it already constitutes a significant portion of e-readers, according to new data from Wattpad.
Wattpad is a cloud-based e-book provider that tracks the various kinds of e-readers used to read its e-books. Wattpad supports hundreds of kinds of e-reading devices, including the iPad and smartphones. Even though the iPad was only released in April, it already accounts for 5 percent of the reading done on Apple devices (49 percent is iPod Touch and 46 percent is iPhone).
What's more, reading Wattpad e-books on Apple devices, such as the iPad, increased by 23 percent in the last quarter. Mobile e-reader devices of all kinds are increasing in popularity, too. Reading Wattpad content on Android devices increased by 25 percent over the same period.
The exception to that is BlackBerry devices, which fell nine percent.
